A new TAFE Illawarra short course designed to meet the needs of local event organisers is starting soon.
Eurobodalla Council's events team has been working with TAFE Illawarra Moruya to develop the training module, and it's fee-free.
The course runs for two evenings per week over six weeks and Council’s Business Development Manager Andrew Greenway says the training will have immediate benefits for organisers or potential organisers of any event, big or small.
“Students will be guided through the skills required to complete an event management plan, which is essential for event approvals through Council, as well as how to market an event and attract sponsorship,” Mr Greenway said.
“We decided to develop this partnership with TAFE Illawarra because we could see from our experience dealing with event organisers that a short, tailored events management course would be worthwhile.
“TAFE Illawarra has been an enthusiastic partner in creating the course and we worked with them to narrow down a big list of event management modules to three key subject areas – marketing, sponsorships, and event staging.
“We even provided Council’s events management plan template, which TAFE Illawarra will use to teach the course,” Mr Greenway said. “It truly is tailored to our local event organisers.”
TAFE Illawarra’s Manager of District Operations Paul Goodwin says the positive partnership with Eurobodalla Shire Council showcases TAFE Illawarra’s flexibility to meet industry needs and develop events skills for the region.
“This course presents a great opportunity for students to network with like-minded people, share ideas, and prepare the documents that are required to run a successful event as they learn,” said Mr Goodwin.
TAFE Illawarra Moruya is encouraging potential participants to attend an information session about the course on Wednesday 27 April at 5.30pm. Subjects completed will count towards a Diploma of Event Management. Or, you can enrol in the course now online.
Classes start on 11 May with two sessions every week for six weeks on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5.30pm to 9pm at TAFE Illawarra Moruya. The course is subsidised by the NSW Government and fee-free for people aged over 15 who have left school.
