TAFE NSW proudly supports our ten young students who graduated with a Statement of Attainment in Customer Engagement at TAFE NSW Wollongong last week, who are well on their way to a career in the contact centre industry.
Shining a light on their success, 60 per cent of the graduates have already secured full-time and casual offers of employment, while others have been asked to apply for positions with host employers.
As a Department of Premier and Cabinet initiative, TAFE NSW, Illawarra RTO partnered with Auscontact to develop an eight-week pilot program to support the youth employment strategy for the Illawarra Shoalhaven region.
Young people between the ages of 17 and 24 had the opportunity to gain job skills and nationally recognised units from the Certificate II in Customer Engagement. The combination of formal training with real world practical industry experience gave students the chance to apply their learning, build skills and confidence, and enhance their understanding of the contact centre industry.
Overwhelmingly positive feedback was received from our graduates and their host employers. Students particularly liked the valuable job-ready skills, new-found confidence and newly formed friendships. Receiving practical hands-on work experience with host employers provided our students the opportunity to network with future employers and get a first-hand insight into the contact centre industries.
We would like to thank our host employers and their nominated supervisors and workplace mentors including: NEC, Department of Human Services, SkyDive the Beach, Peoplecare, Australian Health Management (AHM), the University of Wollongong (UOW) and the Illawarra Retirement Trust (IRT). Without exception, our host employers have all indicated their willingness to participate in future programs and were very happy with the program design and delivery.
Obviously a program such as this would not be possible without the hard work, commitment and support of: Fiona Keough from Auscontact Association, Tori Macri from Peoplecare, Rebecca Dickinson from the UOW and Dot Hennessy, Director Choices and Challenges. Also, our committed TAFE NSW trainers Christine Bartlett, Sharon Payne and Sonia Muttdon who have made a positive difference to the lives and careers of our graduates.
