Looking at the positives of ageing

Mature-aged TAFE student and Oak Flats resident, Zorica Rosenov has discovered a gratifying career in the Aged Care industry.

After studying the Certificate III in Individual Support – Ageing at TAFE NSW Shellharbour, Zorica enjoys her job at the Estia Health recreational care centre where she regularly makes a difference in people’s lives.

“I receive a lot of good feedback from my clients. It’s all about taking the time to sit down and talk with them,” says Zorica.

“It’s very rewarding and at the end of the day, I leave knowing my clients are happy. They say ‘here’s the lovely girl with the lovely smile’ when I arrive at work.”

During her studies, Zorica was tasked to develop a project to reflect positive ageing.

She teamed up with long-time friend, 82-year-old John Zeiser and together they produced a painting of an Australian map that reflects cultural diversity with positive key messages for older Australians.

“John was a hobby painter and stopped painting about four years ago – It worried me a little bit that he had stopped painting because I know he’s passionate about it,” she says.

Not only had Zorica managed to successfully complete her project but she also created a positive experience for John.

“He felt empowered and at the same time, he empowered me. I think he felt a little bit of pride,” says Zorica.
