Aspiring Doctors' Cracking ATAR Result

With aspirations of becoming a doctor, young Wollongong student and mum, Freya Turnbull-Holmes is now one step closer after receiving an outstanding 95 ATAR.

20-year-old Freya studied the Tertiary Preparation Course (TPC) at TAFE NSW Wollongong and has been accepted into university this year to study a Bachelor of Pre-Medicine, Science and Health degree.

A true advocate and ambassador of TAFE, Freya successfully juggled the responsibilities of her two young children and her study commitments.

“It was quite difficult but it was manageable with the day care facilities at Wollongong TAFE,” says Freya.

“I loved the course and all of my teachers at TAFE. They knew exactly how to train me towards the next step and they really cared about my advancement.”

On receiving her ATAR score: “It was just so surprising, I practically fainted. I didn’t believe it at all and I still don’t!”

“The TPC was much easier than studying the HSC at school,” she says.

TAFE NSW teacher, Karen Moore was really impressed by Freya’s academic ability and determination to succeed.

“Her dedication and organisational ability are truly remarkable. Not only did she achieve outstanding results in a demanding full-time course but she did so while caring for two young children,” says Karen.
