Bringing the sunshine to aged care

Young Ulladulla resident, Emily Jaeger has discovered a rewarding career bringing sunshine into the lives of the elderly.

The 21-year-old’s passion for caring grew during her study of the Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care) at TAFE NSW Illawarra Ulladulla, which blended nicely with her industry experience at Australian Unity.

Emily has now found her niche in the aged care industry.

“I love the job because it allows elderly people to stay at home amongst their families for longer,” says Emily.

“My clients are smiling when I leave my shift.”

Emily enjoyed being able to blend her learning with on the job training at Australian Unity.

“With the qualification, I am now able to provide more complex care to the elderly. It has also helped me develop on a personal level and gain a deeper understanding of the industry,” she says.

“All the teachers were really supportive and we could email them anytime. They were very tolerant with the learning and adapted the class to the different cultural needs of the students.”

Helen Pymble, Community Services Coordinator at TAFE NSW Illawarra Ulladulla is awestruck by the enthusiasm that Emily has at the beginning of her career.

“Emily has magnificent patience, kindness and understanding and a love for her community. She’s a gorgeous, empathetic young lady,” says Helen.

“The Certificate III in Individual Support is a great way to learn new skills in the Community Services industry; people become enchanted with their learning journey.”
